About Us

Our Mission:

To create a fun and safe environment for family members of all ages, and to make it easier for them to keep closer touch with each other.

The FamilyTies web site was finally launched in early 2011 to address a perceived need in the modern technology-centric world - a site that families can use to share photos and news and generally keep in touch with each other.

Membership of FamilyTies.com is free; the site is paid for by advertising and affiliate deals. It costs a lot of money to run a service like this so we hope you'll help out by spreading the word - but only if you like it. If you have ideas on ways we can make the service better, please let us know.

Keith

Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, and having a long career in building large scale computer systems, and more recently internet systems, Keith took his family to San Francisco in 2007 so he could work for bebo.com - one of the largest social networking web sites in the world (at that time). He has worked as a software engineer and as a software architect in the past and is largely responsible for any problems you may experience when using Family Ties.

Keith has a passion for building useful computer systems and has always dreamed of not having a boss. The idea of building a social network to help families keep in touch was so compelling that Keith gave notice and left a great job to pursue the biggest adventure of his career.

Tawni

Originally from Pleasant Grove, Utah, U.S.A., Tawni left her family, university, state and even country to marry Keith. That was a long time, and four children, ago. Once Tawni considered Scotland her home, Keith decided to uproot everyone and move to San Francisco. Tawni didn't like how long it took to drive to Utah to visit her sister, or the fact that she hadn't seen a real white Christmas in 17 years. When the opportunity presented itself she was the motivating force behind a relocation to Utah.

Tawni was never very keen on the big social networks - particularly the user posted content - but she liked the idea of them in principle. One morning in late 2008 she came up with an idea of a social network designed specifically with family interactions in mind - and FamilyTies was conceived. Who knew this was to be the longest gestation period in history?
